Ingredients to make 1 Gallon:

  • 15 cups water
  • 6 2/3 cups instant, non-fat dry milk
  • ½ cup store-bought non-fat, plain yogurt (as a starter)


  • Stockpot (or other large pan) with heavy bottom
  • Thermometer
  • Whisk
  • Strainer/sieve
  • Cheesecloth
  • Insulated container (1 gal size)


Put 15 cups of water into stockpot (or other large pan)

Heat the water on medium for a few minutes to warm the water so the dry milk dissolves better.

When the water starts to warm, whisk in the dry milk completely.
